I have to go for Wish You Were Here as my favourite album - just ahead of Dark Side Of The Moon (which simply doesn't have a bad track on it). Reason being that the epic Shine On You Crazy Diamond on WYWH never ever ceases to thrill and chill somewhere in the dark landscapes of my soul. Few pieces of music can evoke such deep and strange feelings time and time again for me.
You can probably tell that I like that song quite a lot!
Don't know what the Floyd sound like when heard through drug induced haze. Never tried it. Don't need to. Don't want to.

I stumbled on this thread today which is jus a few days after the death of Sid Barrett, one of Pink Floyd's founding member and the subject of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". I vividly remember purchasing "Wish You Were Here" in 1975. My first Pink Floyd album. The cover was a solid, vivid blue under the clear plastic that I couldn't wait to peel away. I nicked it with my pocket knife and watched in amazement as the blue plastic peeled away yo reveal the cover we all know with the two gentlemen shaking hands even though one is on fire. It was all wonderful from there. Other albums maybe somewhat better but there is something special about being introduced into a world like "the Floyd".

When I was about nine or ten I was looking through my dad's record collection, and found one with no writing on the front, just a photo of a cow. I asked him about it, and he played it to me ("Atom Heart Mother" of course) as well as "Ummagumma". Those two are still my favourite official Pink Floyd albums today, more than 30 years later.
In this poll I voted for "Dark Side Of The Moon" because it was the next album to be released after I had heard of them.
I prefer the earlier years though, I have maybe 60 or 70 concerts on CD, almost entirely pre-1972
