It would be daft for us to sit here beliveing we are the only ones sitting in this vast universe, i think we are watched be the more advanced, but i dont think they buzz down here and kidnap red necks from the woods.... i mean come on, a whole planet of people to pick from and the keep taking hill billies, not very likely. If i were them i'd be nabbin Bill Gates or Stephen Hawking.

I read a very convincing book several years ago that laid out the idea that most stars in the universe wear not in the right stage of developement to have produced the more complex elements. This would mean that the chance of solid (non-gaseous) planets would be lower and metal on the these planets would be even less likely. Without metal we would never have developed any technology. Without technology a species of planet dweller could probably never leave its planet. What it boiled down to it that the odds against aliens having traveled here is very slim.

On the other hand I firmly believe that from the standpoint of science we are children. The more we know, the more we realize that there is to know. There could easily be concepts beyond us that allows for the existance of alien life forms with technologies we can't even dream about. It is ludicrous to assume that our science is "all that there is".

I like the idea to be still a child. This means we could still grow and learn.

It's always appeared that way looking backwards in time. I thinks we must assume we will be looked at the same way from the same distance in the future. I was born into a world where there was no color TV. Air conditioning was rare. Phones were always connected to wires and sometimes the lines had to be shared. A computer filled a room and had a limited interface (punch cards) and compared to the portable equipment we have today was child's toy. The individual progress from one point to another is logarithmic but projecting it forward another fifty years, some parts of our world will be totally unrecognizable and other parts depressingly the same. Sorry I took so long to get back.
