Hello , ok , so am a 20 year old girl and my girlfriend is 42 we are both deeply in love , however my girlfriend refuses to buy me drinks in public fearing she might get in troubles since the drinking age is 21 in NY , she has no problems with me drinking alone or at home or closed parties but not in public ,so anyways i dont want to make a big deal out of it as i understand her concerns but i also hate it when we go out with her friends and i cant drink , i want to talk to her but i always feel selfish putting my needs ahead of hers . so do you think i should talk to her about this , i get very embarrassed while with her friends because sometimes they tease me about this .* i know they probably trying to point out what they think the ridiculous age gap between us* and i get really mad not being able to prove myself as an an equal partnership to them. do you think am selfish asking my girlfriend to do what i want instead of what she should?? thanks

My advice, anny, is for you not to worry about the age gap and just remember: when you are 41 your girlfriend will be 61. All the the best.

You should just stick it out until you hit 21 years old. Should live in the UK, 18 years of age here. :-)

its nothing just give it time and trust it will fly past and as for her friends sounds like there just playing or turn round and say when they go hahaha you cant drink just say well at least im not gonna feel rough in the morning

Well, if she were to get caught giving you drinks she would get into a lot of trouble. I understand because I would feel the same way...but maybe you guys could think of other stuff to do than go to a bar...at least till you are 21...which is soon probably?

I don't know NY's penalty for underage alcohol consuption/buying, but I wouldn't risk finding out the hard way. Your girlfriend is only understandably anxious about the risk of buying you a shot, but maybe you could sneak a miniture into your glass when nobody's looking.
I used to do that when much younger, when dad wasn't looking. Even sneaked some vodka into a small bottle of mineral water, but shh! You didn't hear that from me.

Age gaps don't matter when you're in love, so I say go for it and ignore those you know in your home town saying otherwise.
