If you won $50 million

Once dreamed there was a rollover of the British lottery - a trilple rollover, with £30 million in the pot (approx $50 million, or 50 million euros) - oh, and the dream showed me the numbers.

That was years ago and it still hasn't happened. >

However, I was thinking the other day, if I had actually ever won that amount of money, then what on earth would I spend it on?

I had thought before on starting my own businesses - build an independent publishing company up for starters, and publish all these promising aspirants!

But now...I have no idea what on earth I'd spend it on.

Btw - if it ever had happened a couple of years ago, I promise you all I would have given every penny to charity.

So - what would you spend it on? What would you do that's really constructive - if anything?

Pay off my student loans.

Buy my mother a house, not here in central California.

Endow a scholarship at my old high school.

Write, without having to worry about other stuff (all the stuff I have to worry about now because I don't have any money).

Travel. Maybe move back and forth between the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere so that I never have to deal with hot summer weather.

Yeah, and deal with the litigations from the distant relatives or those you don't talk to that imagine they deserve a share...
The point is that much money means that you would be able to "take care of"everyone you love and have more money to do something else with - so what would you do?
From what I hear, having that much money essentially ruins people's lives. Would make a good story.
Let's see, aside from travel and taking care of myself and those I love...I would introduce an educational program that teaches Alexander Technique in high schools... along with music instruction, orchestrated by the people over at www.mrnatural.net who I think are brilliant.
I'd buy a few big houses with swimming lanes and rent to my friends to keep them close by- I live in CA so the price of housing is slowly driving out all the artists. I'd produce some musician CDs. I might manufacture a particular juggling toy and a light toy because I think it's such a fun activity.
The strange point is, I could probably do almost all these things without so much money.

Yes - I know all about that relatives issue! Not to that degree, though.

My grandad once won some money on the pools (sort of a sport lottery, for those in North America) - and his two brothers cut off contact with him because they felt they should have had a share.

Quite amazing, really. And very silly.

They got it sorted out eventually - after a year or so. I think one of the brothers is now dead, and my grandad now has some form of undefined mental illness - neurotic depression??

I guess its simply a good job they sorted it out when they did.

Money can make people crazy...after taking care of the loved ones and the creditors that seem to hover over my back - I would probably have to get rid of the remainder - enlarge libraries, give money to schools for more and better field trips, send money to those institutions that are attempting to find cures and suchbuy large tracts of land in areas where it is disappearing and never let anyone in...that type of thing.

Money is definitely over-rated.

No idea what I'd spend 50 million on, though.

I'd give 1 million to my brother, my sister, and my parents (each).

Then I'd spend some of it on me. Get a nice house somewhere not in Texas. A vehicle that works and is reliable. Some fancy clothing. Plastic surgery (that's right, I said it). Pay to go to a real university. Buy a couple of top of the line personal PCs (one which would become my personal jukebox). Get a top of the line MP3 player, digital camera, and all the other electric doodads I always wanted. Go on a major music binge.

And, if I still had a ton of money left over (as I'm sure I would), I'd produce independant movies for aspiring actors/directors. Help make their dreams come true.
