Nepal reassures India over ties with China
Nepal on Monday said India should not worry about Prime Minister Prachanda's recent visit to China as it will pursue a policy of "equi-distance" with its two neighbouring countries.
"India does not need to worry about Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's recent visit to China to observe the closing ceremony of Olympics as it was a normal visit where other world leaders were also invited," Foreign Minister of Nepal Upendra Yadav said in Kathmandu.
Nepal has close relations with both the countries and it ill pursue a policy of equi-distance with India and China, Yadav said.
Yadav is going to New Delhi on three days visit starting from Thursday to participate in the foreign ministry level meeting of the BIMSTEC, a regional grouping under SAARC.
"We will discuss issues related to the breaching of Koshi embankment and ways to contain the flood caused by it in eastern Nepal during the meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the sidelines of BIMSTEC in Delhi," he said.
He added that the Government would form a high-level probe commission to investigate into the collapse of Koshi embankment and subsequent damages.
The issues of bilateral interests and recent political developments will also figure during the talks, he said.
The demand of early repatriation of the Bhutanese refugees staying in eastern Nepal camps for over one-and-a-half-decade will also be raised during Yadav's meeting with his Bhutanese counterpart, the Foreign Minister said.
Some 1,08,000 Bhutanese refugees have been living in eastern Nepal since early 90s after they were forced to leave their country under the Druk Government's ethnic cleansing policy.
