Sometimes, at least as long as it doesn't deteriorate into a slanging match...

I don't mind philosophical discussions, as long as they don't get too out of hand. I've been in quite a few debates, and they're fine as long as they stay civil!

For me, it depends with who I am in the discussion with. My husband and I have deep conversations on philosophical subjects and I really enjoy them.

There are only a couple people whom I've been able to get into deep philosophy conversations with. I do enjoy them when it happens. I love it when someone can explain to me a whole new way of seeing something and then sharing how I originally saw it.

I like philosophical discussions as long as they are philosophical and not quasi-religious. Too many people get them confused.

I agree, sagemother. I agree lighthearted debate, but prefer that the discussion not turn into a mini-preaching session.

This seems to be key, yes... all too often, people take good discussions and turn them into something ugly, though. Too many people won't see other points of view, so what could have been a great discussion ends up turning into an argument.

Which branch of philosophy? Ethics? Logic? Metaphysics?

As long as everybody involved in the discussion remains calm and (relatively) on topic, they can be quite fun (but I have taken several philosopy classes, as you probably can tell.)

I agree, philosophical debates can be very enjoyable, but unfortunately it can turn into quite an offensive arguement when you cant get your point across.

I did A level philosophy..and i have to admit it was my favourite class!! lol
