I agree with Alexa on this one. I've had experience with them, and they do not work in the long run.
Your best bet is to go to a physician or a nutritionist and get a program of diet and exercise. Any reputable professional will not make extravagant promises of quick weight loss and will discourage you from trying to lose more than a pound or two per week. Every doctor I've ever been to has emphasized that to lose more than that is 1) dangerous and 2) will result in quickly gaining all the weight back plus more when you go off the diet.
