When is modereration to much?
we're told to much of anything is bad, but that most things in moderation are ok. so, what is moderation? when does it become more than moderation? a glass of wine seems to be ok, a bottle too much, but what is the middle ground? how do we quantify it, especially as different people have different reaction?

If I didn't know you better, I'd think you were rationalizing a drinking binge.
Oh, wait, I don't know you better. *

Re: When is modereration to much?
nah there is a fascinating series on at the moment about binge drinking in the uk, also there have been several on about eating/dieting to excess. in all of these programs some expert comes abroad and tells about how moderation is the key, so i was logically wondering what is moderation. this also relates to my studies in psychology where i'm doing some work on cognitive therapy for adiction.
i wish i could justify a drinking binge, but if i was passed out drunkenly, who'd look after the kids?

Re: When is modereration to much?
There's too much moderation if by wanting to moderate everytinng, you forget to live.
For a recovering alcohololic, even a moderate drink (one glass) is already too much. Or for binge drinking, if you don't have to go back home and if someone already look after your kids, why would you restrain yourself ? Except for the fact I've never understood the purpose to drink just to get drunk, but that's another story. Although, if you do it on a regular basis you'll enter this way the path to AA meetings.

Re: When is modereration to much?
I've always been lucky to be self-moderating. If I drink too much, too often I get too sick to look at for months. I haven't pushed myself to this state in more than 15 years. And Mark Twain once said, "I smoke in moderation, one cigar at a time."

Some little novels about misfits kids in Southern USA, and some other ones about living among microbs (my favorite). Plus he was a quite decent editorialist.
