so much research has gone into kids and television. on the one hand i know its bad for them, but on the otherhand, well it can be a great learning tool. so this question is two fold, is tv bad for kids and why? and if it isn't to terrible in small doses, how about tv in kids bedrooms where they can watch it unsupervised? and little parental control can be enforced?

No TV in bedroom. whever it's kid's bedroom or adult one. Bedroom is supposed to be a quiet environnement to sleep and relax (and a bit more for adults).

Now TV as any other device can be good and bad for kids, it's up to the parents to check what their kids watch and to check they understand the things they watch.

I think TV is ok now and then but not very often for children. I even saw something lately that there might be a connection between TV and autism.

We never had a TV growing up, and by and large I think that was a good thing. Even if ET scared me to death at ten, because I was so unused to TV and movies. However, I like my TV and especially movies too much to give it up now.

Children shouldn't watch TV completely unsupervised, unless it's a DVD of a kid's movie they've seen a few times already and you know it won't scare them.

Parental participation is very important in this. Especially with very young children, it's important that parents screen what their kids watch, and don't completely ignore age guidelines. The TV should never be used in lieu of a baby-sitter, although I can understand that the temptation to do so is always there.

Kids can watch TV , but not for long hours ??? And I only allow them to watch channels like discovery or cartoons ....
