Public executions
I'm just curious to know what you think about public executions. Why people assist to them ?

Re: Public executions
I think it's horrible, too. I won't go and see even if I had the occasion. Yes, I remember that.
Movies show us people participate with all the family, kids including, and all are eager to assist hangmans, burnings, crucifications, head cuts, etc. I wonder if in reality people had participated at those executions with the families. And what made them to participate ? Revenge is a good reason if the that person killed somebody loved. Curiosity ? Hmm. Kinda morbid. Satisfaction for the satanists ? Maybe satisfaction is not the right word, but I it was the one who crossed my mind. What else ?

Um, Alexa, do you mean sadists? True satanists aren't any more into public executions than the rest of the population. The "human sacrifice" thing is just a myth created by people who really don't know better (especially those involved with "false memory" enuram.)
Sorry about my little rant here, but I deal with legitimate satanists and other alternative path practitioners (but no cultists, to my knowledge.)

Re: Public executions
I'm not interestead in a dealth penalty debate. I already had one in another thread. I watched a western with Clint Eastwood yesterday. 6 outlaws were condamned to be hunged for their crimes. The scene of people with kids waiting for the execution shocked me. Well, you can see similar scenes in lots of movies.
Phyllis, you are right. Sadist is more appropriate.

Re: Public executions
As execution don't take place here anymore since 1981, and were not public since the XIXth century, I do think most people used to assist to it for the same reason people watched gladiators fight or now go and see gore movies : entertainment.

Re: Public executions
Yep, remind me of a 80s book by Stephen King about a reality show ending with the death of the contestants. Seems we're close to it now.
