sorry guys, i'm being obstreporous. i don't want to do it, but especially after the big tom stray has been ill, it is so essential! but i have to get catherine spayed before i do anything else! she is going on heat, and i can't do kittens! i'd never be able to let them go.

No apology needed. Catherine's health comes before FreeCafe's community.

Chipping pets is a great idea. Whether you like it or not, pets are possessions, the way humans never can be. Of course, we must treat pets with dignity owed any living creature, but that doesn't mean they're independent entities. The owner of a pet is responsible for the damage it causes, in the same way that parents of minor children are held at least partly responsible for the crimes their children commit (a parent can't be sent to jail if a minor commits murder, but parents can be required to pay damages to the victim if the child is unable to do so, as most are).

Besides, if you own a cellphone and carry it with you, your location can be tracked to within a few hundred yards (in a city) or a few miles (in the country) just using triangulation data from base stations.

They put a chip under the skin of pets, which can be scanned a short distance away. Sort of ID for the pet.
