Default Bird flu testing

As per CNN, federal scientists began in Alaska the testing migratory birds for signs of a dangerous bird flu that could show up in North America.

Quote:
More than 40 species of waterfowl and shorebirds are considered susceptible to infection by a highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus that has killed more than 100 people in other parts of the world, mostly in Asia.
Bird experts narrowed the list to the 28 species considered most likely to be carriers and most practical to sample.

What do you think about bird flu ? Are you afraid to be contaminated ? Do you have the courage to take care of a migratory bird if you find it in your garden ? Will the latest bird-flu scare stop you eating chicken or poultry?

With my three dogs, all birds are merely passing through.

Nope,
Nope, I'd call the vet services - Bird flu or not - because anyway it's the safest thing to do for me and the bird
And I keep eating poultry and eggs, bird flu virus don't survive cooking anyway.
The only thing I was afraid of that was my cat catching it. But she's an inside cat so there's close to no chance for her to be infected.

a friend of mine has a rescue flock. ex battry hens. its small enough that she legally doesn't have to register them. so far she has been ok. and things have quieted down here about it. however she was very scared, i teased her mercilessly about going on the run with the birds. but in honesty. if it does hit, her flock will be destroyed. not a nice thought at all.

My brother-in-law has pigeons. He lost all of them two years ago, after a short visit of a nasty beast. We still have ratons around us. He was completely devastated. He bred others meanwhile. And now he is really scared of bird flu. I found a wounded pigeon a few months ago and I wanted to give it to him and he made me let the pigeon outside and wash my hands immediately. I felt bad for the poor pigeon, but the truth is I don't want to get sick.
