The Swan / Mademoiselle Swan
Our local TV gave us lately the "Mademoiselle Swan" or "The Swan" seria. Did anyone watch it ? What do you think about these extreme transformations ? How about those obsessed of plastic surgery ?

Re: The Swan / Mademoiselle Swan
Plastic surgery for legitimate reasons (like reconstructive surgery or surgery to correct a true deformity or to keep someone safe after giving testimony against truly dangerous people) is okay, even necessary imho. Plastic surgery just to improve one's looks without it being medically/legally necessary (like misshapen skull, burn victim, no fingers and/or toes, radical mastectomy, etc for medical and Witness Protection Program for legal) is like using a photon torpedo to kill a fly.
Alas, too much emphasis is put on "beauty" and the "right look" that many people will put their health/lives in jeopardy to "look good"/"look younger". Again, just my humble opinion.

Got to agree wholeheartedly. Accept yourself as you are and worry about the important things in life.....................like snails.

Another irresponsible BS reality TV show. So many surgery procedure in so little time, it's only a matter of months before they've got a major health issue with one of the competitors. Not even talking about the psychological disorder these transformation occurs.
For plastic surgery itself, I don't care. If people think it can help them to feel better with themselves why not ? But it's not a miracle.
BTW, how do you classify transgender people who use surgery to change their gender ?

Re: The Swan / Mademoiselle Swan
First of all, I would like to say this kind of show drives me crazy. I watched some sequences only to have an idea what was the story about.
As per my understanding, those women were not happy at all about their look. (Well, I'm not happy with my look either, but I won't try to have a plastic surgery only for a few years and I'm afrad of knives in general.) This show gave them the occasion to be stars or a new type of mannequines, the Swans. The physical result is amazing, I must admit. But they pay this for what price ? Inside of them, I'm sure it's impossible to change only in a few months. They look great after all those operations, but for how many years ? Nobody can stay young forever. We are all mortals.
The worst part is this kind of show, beside a Hollywood image, influence other women. They became so obsessed about their physical, they forget to live and their familes and children pay for it.
I agree the plastic surgery is useful for reconstruction purposes after an accident or a physical problem, like a 3th foot, at birth. The rest of them serve more the pockets of the surgeons.
Those who change the gender, hmm, they really have psycologicals issues.

I'm not a pro-plastic surgery, but even if it's only for pure psychological or esthetical purpose, we can't put away all these type of surgery as rubbish.
Breast enhancement or breast reduction really helped some of my friends life (try being petite in high school with a 38 cup, not really fun), eyelids surgery is quite often used by politician or TV host for professional reason.
However I agree it musn't be shown as a simple procedure - as an haircut would be, and should be handle with care if only to adjust the new appearence with the old mind.
