I believe you. Even if you can promise me it won't bite, I still don't wanna touch it.

I really don't understand how came someone can raise snakes in their home. I have no problems with cats, dogs, perrots or hamsters. But snakes ! Yeak !!!

My dogs seem to smile when I come home from work (or when my wife has a rib roast in the oven). I cat's purr is pure affection,bt your right I don't see that kind of thing in a snake.

My cats wait me at the door when they know it's time to arrive at home. If I "dare" to be late, they gave that unhappy face and ignore me. When I come back at the usual hour, they make their nails, well they do like they still have them and wait for my attention. One of them likes to wake me up and in the evening she meows to tell me it's time to go to sleep. I could tell you many other details about their character. I'm sure with a dog it's the same. But with a snake, brrrr ... I really don't understand what make some people interested to have it at home. Worse, impor and than drop it into the nature. Stupid people !

People do that to any/every kind of animal, cute or not. They get tired of taking care of the animal or the animal is no longer "cute"/"exotic"/whatever or it has "served its purpose", then it gets dumped like leftover Christmas ham suddenly rediscovered around Easter. Sometimes the animal survives, other times it doesn't and sometimes it thrives (feral :kitty:s, wild rabbits and dingos "Down Under" spring to mind), and the introduction of the "invader" wrecks the local ecosystem. It's worse when the animal that is "tossed" is "intact".

I know. I'm preaching to the choir. *steps off soapbox, breaks it up, then throws it into the recycling bin*

For having interviewed a snake, scorpions and spider seller, snakes are not pets. In the sense, you can't interact with snakes the way you interact with a cat, a dog, a bird or an hamster. But, according to him, having a snake at home bring the same king of benefits than having a fish tank at home.
Strangely, in the pet industry, the selling of snakes, other reptiles and arachnids is in second position to the disorder to local fauna after the selling of fishes. One of the most recent major problem, is the frog they sell to put in fish tank. It's a carnivorous one sold very small but becoming so big it'll eat all the fishes of the tank, then release in the nature all the fishes of a pond.

Countries are supposed to respect Washington conventions (CITES) when introducing fauna and flora but there's still many holes everywhere.

Well, a fish cannot bite you when you and represents no danger for your life.

Hmm. If some restaurants prepare snakes in front of you ...

Looks like the same problem is with the snakes from the CNN article.

Unfortunately, politicians are official liars with huge incomes.

Not here, but it's not unheard of

The problem don't come from politicians (for once but from the pet industry itself which doesn't hesitate to use Maffia-like procedure to provide exotic pets (or even cheaper dogs) to its buyers.

The laws should discourage such Mafia procedures, so I still blame politicians. Bon, d'accord. La nature humaine aussi.

Laws, customs and veterinarians services are all active on it. But it's a subject less important in their eyes than food industry.

The food industry needs a lot of help in laws, too.
