Mars
Did anyone hear about the Time Traveler Convention? It was an event organised by MIT students (I think) for a bit of fun but it generated alot of press and was mentioned before and after in the Feedback section of the New Scientist magazine.
Quote:
From the New Scientist of May 21st
Rain stops time travel
SUNDAY 8 May, the date of the Time Traveler Convention that we announced after it had happened last week, was cold, rainy and miserable in Massachusetts, which might explain why none of the hoped-for "confirmed time travellers" turned up for it. They presumably knew in advance - or with hindsight. This suggests that the people organising such conventions ought to be time travellers themselves, as they would know what weather to expect.
Meanwhile, we are told that the convention was a success with those people from our own time who visited it, involving as it did "a great series of lectures and awesome bands". And it still may be worthwhile publicising the event because, depending on which time-travel paradox you adhere to, visitors reading the publicity in the future may still be able to attend it even though none was there as far as our perception of the current time frame is concerned.

Re: Time Travel
I must admit I was dissapointed when I saw the real face of Mars. All that red land gives me shudders. I want to believe that planet had once intelligent life on it, but I can't. You know, those green martians form SF makes me laugh. Why green aliens on a red planet ?
I didn't imagine somebody could even think to organize a Time Traveller Convention without any evidence of time travelling. I guess, people have the right to dream about it.

As long as the publication is named and dated, it's better to have articles as quotes. Even better to have the name of the writer if available. And to had the link to the original site if available.

Re: Time Travel
Has anyone seen what Mars would look like if it was warmed up?

There it is, an Earth look-a-like.
NASA have said that they would like to put some men on Mars in 2020, the same time as the Chinese going to the Moon.

Re: Time Travel
2020 ? Hmm. I really don't know how the'll survive on that planet. After all those legends of green martians, I'm a little dissapointed. No life on Mars after all.

Re: Time Travel
No life now on Mars surface. No proof Mars wasn't warm enough to have life in the past.
If you're looking for life outside Terra, place your bet on Europe or Titan, the moon satelllites of the gas planet

Re: Time Travel
Soz Alexa I meant NASA wanted to send people to Mars in the same way they sent them to the Moon, just to walk on the surface then they'll return not stay there.*
Mars has the resources required for life to survive (Well our definiton of it anyway). They could warm up Mars in a century or so by doing exactly what they're doing to this planet, send fumes up into the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect basically. Of course a century is an approximate minimum.*

Re: Time Travel
Oh no, we'll have another theory of conspiracy !
NASA has to conquer the Moon first. If they are able to establish a station on the Moon, they'll probaly do something on Mars, too.
I'm afraid I won't be on this planet that day. *sigh"
