Default Scooby do

ok, my son is making me watch scooby do till i want to cry. the old ones, not the movies (which imho were terrible!)
the cartoons remain ever popular, so why did the movies flop so badly? was it the miscasting? or was it more basic than that?
the characters in the cartoon are very one dimensional, i mean, honestly, prepared to go into danger for dog buiscuits? hurmph. i don't think so. in making the film, they realised this, and tried to make the characters more rounded, giving them deep seated issues to overcome.
This is why it couldn't work.
please feel free to comment as you feel fit

Yep, they lost the hippie/shallow/tongue in cheek feel of the originals. They were still cute enough but not great.

I also think some of the casting was poor - Freddie Prinze Jr., while not a bad actor, just didn't fit the role he portrayed. The only ones who were okay in their roles were Shaggy and Velma.
