Answers to the first four:
9 F H O A R - 9 finger holes on a recorder. (Holes six and seven are doubles, hole underneath is for the thumb.)

4 S O A DB - 4 strings on a double bass

6 P O T SOD - 6 points on the Star Of David

400 M A A A T - 400 metres around an athletics track

I posted these without looking at the answers (because I wanted to have a go as well) but now that I see the answers, I'd never have gotten them. Not in a million years. Lets do easier ones, Quokka has already started.
