Default Hedgehog hunting

Now hunting foxes with dogs is illegal in Scotland, and the animal rights activists turn to england. however, wildlife is not safe in that area by any means. there are exceptions to the rule, apparently. and one of the animals excepted is the hedgehog. yes, you read it right. these sweet prickly little critters are being hunted. there was a spring hunt, and now an autumnal one. starting from the 26th September to the 28th of october hedghogs will be hunted down with dogs, and then shot (with shotguns). The organisation responsible is the Uist Wader Project, made up of Scottish Natural Heritage, RSPB Scotland and the Scottish Executive. I'm writing a letter to voice my objections to this mindless slaughter. my daughter is putting up a petition at her local school to try to halt the process as well.

just to note, although the hedgehog cull did proceed, only humane methods were used, ie lamping and then gas/injection. the dogs and guns were put on hiatus due to the general moral fuss created by communities, virtual and tangible.

Good news, shows that virtual and tangible protest can have effect. Sorry to hear the culling must have been done instead of relocation.

apparently, and this is borne out by the hedgehog protection trust, relocating them is very stressfull, even if drugged during the relocation. the shock to the system will kill them. would be interesting if they could rig some form of contraception into the diet.
