puzzle help
help me figure out which books or authors these could be.* If you figure it out, don't give the whole thing away, just give a hint or something so I can figure it out on my own later.
A G by Anne B
B A C Care by B S
B H by Lew W
These are the first letters of the words in the titles and the authors' names.* Any ideas? I don't even have any ideas on those.
Here are examples (these are the ones I've figured out from the same list):
D Z by Boris P
Dr. Zhivago by Boris Pasternak
F W The B T by E H
For Whom The Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway
L Among T C by P G W
Love Among the Chickens by P. G. Wodehouse
M, D, R by C Gustav J
Memory, Dreams, Reflections by Carl Gustav Jung
Mrs. D by V W
Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
T G of W by J S
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

The first one has me stumped.
For the second one, think of the first name of a character played by Dustin Hoffman for the author's first name, and a Star Trek character (TOS) for the author's last name. It's a popular how-to book from the sixties that became very controversial later on.
For the third one, you've got a book that was made into a film starring Moses (think about it :wink , written by an author with the same last name as a former southern governor who unsuccessfully ran for president.
I'm sorry if I made it too easy.

Re: puzzle help
Good clues, though I still can't get number one or two. The third I figured out by your clues - even though I've never heard of the book or the author though I have heard of the movie.
Sadly it is now Sept. 1st and I can't enter (even though I don't have them all, it is fun to enter anyway). Hopefully she'll put out the answers soon so I can be put out of my misery regarding the first book.

Re: puzzle help
Another clue for number two. The author was a doctor who became very controversial because of his activity in the anti-war movement during and after Vietnam. In consequence of that, his book also became very controversial. But it was highly popular in the 1950s, and many people used it as a guide to a particular aspect of family life.

Re: puzzle help
Aha! Baby and Child Care by Benjamin Spock!!
Never would have gotten that one on my own. Probably because it is commonly thought of (at least in my mind) as Child Care by Dr. Spock.
The answer to the first is...
Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte - of course, I'm once again stymied by the fact that the Bronte sisters are known as that, they come to me in my head as 'the Bronte sisters' and their names never seem to seep into the thick soup I call my brain. Perhaps this will glue it in there.

Re: puzzle help
I love puzzles like this one. Was introduced to them in a Human Relations class in community college. There was one in the study guide, near the end, for reasons that are not entirely clear. We did them as a class, and the teacher got really annoyed that I got most of them right away. She didn't like me anyway. Well, the feeling was mutual, and I spent the bulk of the semester trying to annoy her, because the class was so boring. Found out sometime in the second week of the semester that she hated having people ask questions - so of course I made sure I asked them all the time.

Re: puzzle help
 Doncha love annoying those teachers/professors that don't seem to want to be there?
if you go to www.bookbrowse.com and register to get the newsletter, she includes one I think on a weekly basis and there is a prize of a book  The one above was her annual summer wordplay bonanza with much larger prizes.

Re: puzzle help
I'm still thinking about the first one.
Number two, however: Think genetic meddling for the title of a book written by someone wo was sometimes considered a futurist in his time.
