I doubt the situation is better inside innovator companies... What you describe is common to most companies (including some dealing with dangerous products as nuclear waste).

The only thing I don't like about my current job is the boredom. I'm responsible for making sure phones get answered and paper gets shuffled here and there and if the phone isn't ringing or I'm not writing up meeting minutes, I've got nothing to do. So, I generally spend my day surfing the net and chatting with you guys. I'd prefer to be busy, it makes the day go faster. Plus, because I'm not doing anything for the most part, I get lazy.
