Default Magazines

I read and or receive a great many magazines, both because I sign up for free subscriptions or through my job.

I don't know why but I love magazines of all sorts.* Even those that aren't on a subject that really interests me can still draw me in with dazzling photos and interesting coverlines.* Just to give you an example, here's a list of the current mags that come to my home:
Organic Style - a terrific look at attempting to have as little environmental impact as possible.* They do it with flair, style and lots of humor.
body & soul - this one is new to me but so far enjoyable articles on yoga, wheatgrass and some yummy recipes.
Ladies Home Journal - I only read this one sketchily, as most of the articles are geared to those older than me.* But often I'll read an entire article and enjoy.
Blender - I only skim this one for info on my favorite bands/singers/musicians.* Very glossy and edgy.
Razor - another one I scan for any celebrities that might interest me.* Also very glossy and edgy.
Maxxim - both roomie and hubbie receive copies of this, I don't read it for the scantily clad girls like they do, but their articles have a human feel - like these are real people writing them without the genericizer that goes on with most magazines as they try to not be too out there or shocking but not boring either.
Stuff - same as above, more adult language and sillyness that can be associated with men/boys.
Discover - fascinating stuff along with brilliant photos.*
Biography - sometimes they have really good articles on celebrities.* My fave was a six pager on Johnny Depp with lots of photos.* Saved that one*
Budget Living - I read this from cover to cover and usually keep them too.* While they aren't completely 'budget-minded' (they mostly live in New York city and have no idea how to truly shop on a budget) they give lots of good advice, fun articles.
Saveur - yummy, yummy, yummy

and ones I read at work:
Restaurant News Weekly - amazing the stuff you can find out about you favorite eateries.
Restaurants and Institutions - sometimes they have fascinating articles but mostly boring business end stuff I"m not interested in.
Wine Spectator - I glance through this one for the beautiful photos.
Bartender - there is always something fun in this one.

Then there are the ones that I no longer recieve but miss:
Jane - always just a little bit different than your other basic women's magazines.
Smithsonian - more beautiful photos paired with fascinating articles on everything under the sun.
Science - what I liked about this one is that it came often (weekly?), with short articles that got directly to the point.
Omni - just plain good stuff here all around.
Marie Claire - another one that models itself after mags like Cosmo but also has more in depth and interesting articles.

I'm sure there are more but I can't think of any at the moment.

So, what magazines do you get, if any, and which ones would you like to?

Outside IT, no subscription at the moment, I'll get back to my favorite newsmagazines (Time and Le Nouvel Observateur) in September.
I sometimes indulge a splurge in feminine magazine (Cosmo - french and most anglo versions except the Oz one, Glamour, Biba and so on...), in cat mags and a issue of Historia or two the year depending on the subject. Same with rock magazines

Inside my field (IT), I "steal" most of them when I go to the staff office or then send me copy of the ones with my work in it. In all about 5 new mag a week.

All in all, I don't spend much on magazines and prefer daily newspapers.

I used to read those of paranormal activities. I got bored after a while, so no magazines for me. I prefer books.

I really miss "Omni". I used to count the days until it would show up in my mailbox.

Now, I read "Rolling Stone" occaisionally, and that's about it. Although I'll be looking for the September issue of "Vogue", as someone I know slightly is supposed to be in it. Other than that, I don't read too many magazines, although I wish I could afford to subscribe to one of the newsweeklies - "Time" or "Newsweek" - simply because I feel a little bit more informed when I read them.

I do buy "Vanity Fair" occasionally if there is an article I want to read, but I really don't like their snobbishness. And when I can afford it, I'll buy "Discover", but that isn't often. Magazines have gotten so expensive.

These days most magazines and newspapers have a large chunk of their content online. Some of them won't let you view anything but the headlines, some will give you the gist of the article and require you to pay to get further details and others will give you everything (these are mostly newspapers). I end up reading three newspapers a day (San Francisco Gate, Washington Post and Orlando Sentinel) well, the parts I feel like reading . It is especially fun to read horoscopes from different places

The links for the free magazines (I doubt they would work for the bulk of you who don't live in the US, for anyone in the US who is interested, pm me) or for the newspapers? They are all pretty intuitive:
http://www.washingtonpost.com
http://www.orlandosentinel.com
http://www.sfgate.com
http://www.hindustantimes.com/
http://www.cosmomag.com
http://www.elle.com
http://www.marieclaire.com

and
http://www.sciencemag.org
http://www.smithsonian.org
http://www.discover.com

and there are many others, of course. BTW, Leto, I like the link you posted as well. May have to add it to my daily routine!
