Conan and other pap fiction
i like these sort of books. they are brainless and fun with big strong heros and very little else. there are several series, not all science fiction or fantasy based. do you like this sort of pulp? if so which series get you going? if not, why?

San-Antonio. It's a parody of pulp thrillers, with quite gross adult situation but so well written and with so many puns, I can't stop laughing reading one of them.

Why do you think I read Clive Cussler? Big strong heroes, lots of action, a bit of brain food but not too much. It's restful for my overused, overstressed brain.

Re: Conan and other pap fiction
The Les Norton series by an Australian author Robert Barrett. Les Norton is a big red headed bouncer for an illegal casino in Sydney, he is friends with all the underground gangsters but of course has a heart of gold and only beats up the baddies. They're short, a bit cartoony and not exactly prize literature, but they're funny at times and make a nice change from anything too demanding. Plus it's a novelty reading a series that is based in Australia.

It's very strange, but I'm completely used to running across places I know in books, as well as seeing familiar places in films and on tv. I guess it comes from having grown up in southern California, but I'm completely used to it. Although, there was a series of ads on television last winter that had me so excited simply because they were filmed about a block away from where I lived when I was a child. That ad made me homesick for the old place every single time I saw it.

Re: Conan and other pap fiction
The first time I went to California, I had the impression to walk into a gigantic movie studio.

Re: Conan and other pap fiction
As a reader of romance I can definitely relate to the liking of such things as Conan. Likeable characters, simple yet interesting plots, good guy wins/guy gets girl/good guy kicks buns...it's all good
