ok, i know very little about poetry, but would like to ask, which you'd prefer in your own reading/writing material. form poems (ie sonets etc...) or freeverse?

Never much liked freeverse. Never really saw the point. I like something that is really well constructed, that just begs to be read aloud. 'Once apon a midnight dreary, as I pondered, weak and weary...', that kind of thing.

and yet sometimes it is to stylised to suit the mood. besides which, innane rhyme annoys me.

Freeverse, definitely. Probably mostly because I'm not good at writing anything that conforms to a meter or rhyme-scheme, but also because I think poetry is first and foremost for expressing one's feelings, and my feelings don't often fit into any official meter I've ever found.
