Default How do you hide a 400-foot waterfall?

I found this story today on CNN when I was looking for something else entirely.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/12/sec....ap/index.html

It seems that a few people have known about this for awhile, but haven't told anyone.* It just seems strange that something that big could go almost undiscovered in a state as populous as California.* Although, it is certainly true that to have so many people, California still has some very wild spaces.* Which is a good thing.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share.

It's always good to find places like that. Strange thing, that guy needed more than 70 years to find that place. No wonder people don't know about the waterfall.

Whiskeytown ?

Yeah. California has some pretty cool place names. Whiskeytown is in northern California, fairly near Redding, according to the map I saw. What I think is interestnig is that some people don't want anyone to know where it is. I can understand that in a way, but if it's that hard to get to, not that many people are going to go there anyway.

Maybe the traject to the waterfall is dangerous and needs a guide. Do you think they try to protect some animals ?

I think it all has to do with the fact that the few people who did know where it was didn't want to share. Probably doesn't have anything to do with protecting the animals. I don't know...it personally annoys me when people take the attitude that only a certain select group should be able to enjoy the out-of-doors on the theory that eveyone else would ruin it. If they would just educate people in how to take care of the environment, then it wouldn't be a problem.

Then again, I'm in a bit of a cranky mood this morning. Monday, and all that, you know.

i can go with that. one of our fave places in SA was the Howick Falls, it wasn't on the main tourist line, and incredibly beautiful. and unspoiled.
