Re: Wonders of the world
I'll say to take Wikipedia as guide, but if you have other suggestions, please feel free to say it.
Quote:
Modern architecture is usually characterised by:
- a rejection of historical styles as a source of architectural form (historicism)
- an adoption of the principle that the materials and functional requirements determine the result
- an adoption of the machine aesthetic
- a rejection of ornament
- a simplification of form and elimination of unnecessary detail
- an adoption of expressed structure

Re: Wonders of the world
Well the last of the Wonders of the Ancient world was the Lighthouse at Alexandria in 500AD, so they covered around 4000 years? I didn't think 500 AD was all that Ancient. So how about just post-500... or should I start a 'Mid Term Wonders' Thread?* *

Re: Wonders of the world
I think we should form the list of the Wonders that simply didn't come into the 7 Wonders but worth referring to as such regardless of the time of their construction.
What about Chechen Iza and Machu-Pikchu?
And La Sagrada Faimilia Cathedral by Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona?

Re: Wonders of the world
I suggest to nominate all those you think they deserve to be taken in consideration, no matter the period. Once we have a list, we can place them in periods and chose the winners.

Re: Wonders of the world
Yes, it's certainly the wonder, this skull made of a single piece of crystal but I don't know if our search isn't limited with only architecture? What is your opinion, dear colleagues?
