Funny!
But humour aside, I wonder if English-speaking (native) people attach gender to any more non-living things beside a ship (feminine). Category of gender in English AFAIK is rudimentary. What concerns me, Ukrainian and Russian make me attach gender (masculine, feminine and neutral) to all nouns, so I don't think outside gender at all because of peculiarities of my mother tongue. Could you, please, give me more (serious! :wink examples of attaching gender to notions or nouns expressing non-living things.

French, we don't have any neutral and all nouns have an gender like most latin-derived language.

In english, apart from ships (she), cats (she) and dogs (he) I don't see.

most vehicles are considered to be female
most machines are considered to be male
peanut m&m's are male
regular m&m's are female

But really, there are technically no genders attached to any noun, unless it is a living thing and the gender is known. There are generalisms like the ones Leto and I just mentioned, but that is it.

nope (actually, brown is a regular m&m and yellow is a peanut, both are male, in the ads, only green is female)
the peanut ones are males because those are the ones with nuts...*goofy grin here*

No, animals are male or female depending on gender (no true cat or dog lover'd call a pet, 'It,') a dog or tom is, 'He,' a bitch or queen is, 'She.'
