Default Fight against the stress

You all know how stress became a plague in our modern society. As I was forced to recover from an overworked lately, I keep reading all that I can find on the net about this subject.

Vera Nicholas-Gervais proposes some scenarios and how to react in the following article:

http://lifestyle.sympatico.msn.ca/Home/ContentPosting_CL.aspx?contentid=bc6e3ba1b3c64d408 650ca9211e41efd&show=False&number=0&showbyline=Tru e&subtitle=&detect=&abc=abc

Here you have a quote from this article:

Quote:
You're a stressed-out mom with little, or no, time to regroup and take care of yourself.
Look at your underlying triggers for stress and determine whether it's fatigue, lack of time for yourself, or some other factor. Don't rely on an occasional quick-fix escape. Instead, reserve a few hours a week for time alone to spend however you wish.

You're chained to your computer and e-mail rules your life.
Consider limiting your e-mail exchanges for narrowly defined professional purposes only, and "rehumanize" your contact with short phone calls and handwritten notes. Rediscover the seemingly lost art of truly connecting with others.

Revisit the way you work.
Analyse whether your job runs you, or whether you are in control of your working environment. Is it time to explore part-time hours, flex-time options, a work-from-home arrangement, or even a career makeover? Have your job fit your life, not the other way around.
What do you think about the article ?
Do you feel the stress in your work or at home ?
How do you deal with it ?

Alexa, stress and myself were once great friends.
I had to change positions in the company I worked for just this passed year because I was getting medical problems linked with HIGH stress. Doctor told me change my line of work, or see ya....in short.
Stress comes from so many different things. Bills, money, relationship, etc...
I have new ways of overcoming my stress for the most part. Number one, my wife and myself have cut out most of our unneeded bills and the rest, we have gotten lowered a bit. Number two, I seek other activities to go and do when I am off work. Riding my bike, internet, hiking, etc.
Those times when I am out doing another activity keeps my mind off of the stress for awhile. Those hours are golden to me now!

I honestly believe stress, or his little sister, worry are useless. I went through a period of great stress about 3 years back, and found myself unable to sleep, worrying about what to do about my situation. At some point I suddenly realised that worry or stress don't solve anything - if I knew something I could do to actually tackle my problem, and hadn't already done it, I would then do it. If there was nothing to do, and already done what I could - what weas the point in stressing about it? It wouldn't change anything!

That attitude has since become second nature for me. When I have a problem, I do what I can, and don't let myself waste time worrying beyond that.

And yes, I include a modicum of down time for sitting by myself and reading, watching tv or simply watching entropy increase in each day.

Stress isn't that hard to bust if you're willing to be a little more detached and accepting of life (once ypu've done what you can). We really can;t control every little thing, and stress is just the fallout of control mania, I thinl.

My doctor recommended to change my line or job, too. Easy to say. The problem is I like that stupid job.

I began to say "no" to all those requests kind of: "come on, you are the only one who can help me" "he/she (meaning their supervisor) have no clue about it, but I'm sure you have", "come on, I'm sure you can fix this in a few minutes, I have no time to waste", etc.

I hope I could say the same thing one day.

I don't have a huge amount of stress. I work in a menial job that a trained monkey could do. Therefore, nobody truly relys upon me so much that I get stressed out. I do sometimes, however, get a little stressed if what I've done is wrong, I hate to look bad so if I do something wrong sometimes I go overboard in trying to make it right which can get stressful.

Most of my stress these days is caused by money issues. My house needs some serious work done but there's no money to fix it. Usually I can block that out and not worry about it unless it starts effecting other things. Sadly, we don't have the ready cash to make the fixes. We are working on it but unfortunately, until we can get caught up on our bills and debt, there is no way to truly save money for large purchases like that. But, since I'm doing what I can to fix that (two jobs at the moment) I try to not worry about it unless my husband starts stressing, which tends to stress me...

I think I see my husband stress out so much that I realized a long time ago, much like JP, stress is a silly thing that you bring onto yourself. These days I try to keep it out of my life, but, I'm not always successful. Usually this happens when I'm generally down or blue at that time and more susceptible to negative feelings.

Whenever I get stressed it's almost always over small things which, to other people, are meaningless. Usually about an upcoming event, day etc. I tend to think nothing of it till it's a day away then all the stress comes and goes so quickly I forgot why I got stressed out over it in the first place.

I wish you all to never find out the stress into an agressive growing company and the shut down of another one. It makes me think of the rules into a jungle.

You are happy people, DD and Percon.

Good analogy Alexa, been there 3 years ago and seems I'll know it again in six month. My then employing company (and now my main client) was sold to a financial funds which is now looking for new buyers. And with each sale there's a downsizing.... Last time it was 1/3 of all employees and 1/2 of journalists, next ?

I don't have any major stress, because I don't have any major responsibilities. And I'm quite happy with that situation, though I know a lot of people wouldn't be...

I hope you'll be one of those they'll keep, Leto. Do you have the right to work for other newspapers as independent journalist, Leto ?

Cal, be happy as long as you can.
