Let's talk about sport !
What is your favorite sport ?
Do you play one ? Which one ?
Do you usually watch your favorite sport at home with your family or your friends or you prefer to go see it at the stadium ?
Do you have a favorite player or team ? Which one ? Why ?
Let's talk about it.

Re: Let's talk about sport !
ok Ivy, I'll run to the rescue.
I'm not what I'd call an obsessive sports fan, but I do try and watch what I can.
I love the "big" events - World Cup, Olympics etc but I suppose the sport I watch the most of is Football (probably soccer to you folks across the pond).
I support Liverpool football club & have since I first 'discovered' football when I moved to the Uk aged 6 in 1984 - the fact they won the FA Cup & League that year no doubt pushed my choice...
As far as playing sport goes, I've always been fairly crappy at it. I enjoy playing Badmington and enjoy swimming but I don't do either as much as I would like really.
Sports I either hate or just don't get are numerous but here are the top 5:
1) Golf - might be ok to play but it's sure rubbish to watch
2) Baseball - rounders is more fun and they don't chew tobacco. Also, how many games??
3) Basketball - I just get bored. One team scores 2 points, then the other team..oh wait, someone's got three.... zzzzz
4) Cricket - any game which takes 5 days to finish is an exercise in endurance not joy
and lastly 5) Horse Racing - not sure if Munchkins on horseback qualify as a sport but it's explotative garbage to me......although shooting the loser when they break their leg could be a good incentive in other sports....

Re: Let's talk about sport !
Football (or soccer) is one the few sports I understand the rules. The Italian and German teams are not bad at all. I used to watch UEFA and world Cup. *sigh* I have to take cable again or buy an antenna*.
I saw Cissé playing a few years ago. Not bad. Do you have a favorite player or you support all the Liverpool team, WS ?
I like the big events, too, especially for gymnastics and figure skating.
I used to play tennis, badmington and even football when I was 10 years old. Well, let's say I had only guys around me and that was their favorite game.
Lately, I take only my bike once in a while. Not much spare time. *sigh*

Re: Let's talk about sport !
The thread I've been waiting for! I'm an Australian. If I didn't love sport, they'd kick me out of the country...
I checked football, meaning rugby league. The comp here is called the NRL, and I support the Brisabane Broncos, and have done all my life - or at least from the age of seven, when the club was founded. They've been the most successful team here over the last decade and a half, though we've had lean times lately. But we're leading the comp with four rounds left, so hopefully this is the year! My favourite current player would be a toss up between Shaun and Barry Berrigan, and maybe Darren Smith, and Shane Webcke, and... well, too many to pick. All time fave is Mick Hancock, one of the best wingers and later interchange forwards Stanthorpe has ever produced. Also devoted follower of the Queensalnd Origin team, which plays a three game series with NSW every year - which we sadly haven't won since 2001. Rugby league is pretty much my life all year, sadly.
And no one understood any of that, I'm sure. But I also love cricket, AFL (go the Brisbane Lions!), tennis, football of the round ball variety - support Newcastle in the EPL - and watch a bit of American football when it's on. But then, I'll watch pretty much any sport so long as it's on TV. I found myself a couple of weekends ago watching women's curling. Though admittedly it was mostly because the American girl was cute...
Play a bit of tennis, enjoy kicking the footy when I can find someone to kick it back. Now I've bored everyone to tears, I'll go....

Re: Let's talk about sport !
Well, firstly it's League. 'Rugby' is usually rubgy union. It's like union but I'd say it's quicker paced and less focussed on small details. And a hundred times better!
There is an international competition, but it's really only England, New Zealand and Australia that play it to any kind of competitive level, and Australia is leaps ahead of those two. But there is an infrequent World Cup, and countries like Fiji, Samoa, PNG, Russia, Romania, Georgia and even the US have teams that compete internationally. Australia played the US at the end of last year, in Philadelphia, I think. Suprisingly, Australia won comfortably....

Re: Let's talk about sport !
I like watching most sports. Wasn't the biggest fan of soccer until I spent a few years in Ireland. Now I love the world cup and internationals, but that goes for most sports. I'm also a Leeds supporter. I mainly follow the australian rules football (dockers fan) and watch the international cricket (though very rarely a whole day just bits here and there) plus a bit of F1 and moto gp. My wife is actually a bigger fan of sport then i am and she's completely one-eye biased when it comes to the Ireland football team and the Fremantle Dockers in the aussie rules, she even watches more of the cricket than I do.
I played rugby league for years as a teenager but now it's just martial arts, gym and a bit of golf.
