tried that trick long time ago in San Diego with Jehovah witnesses, who spoke to us in English, then Spanish. We answered in French pretending not to understand the other languages, unfortunatly one of them was from Montreal. Fortunatly for us, she was so happy to find someone fluent in French she spoke about her home country and ours and totally forgot about her religious propaganda (note that I don't care about other people beliefs, I just happen not to appreciate to be stopped in the street or rang at my door to get bored by someone explaining me why mine are wrong.)

For tourists, I - for the moment - have used the main Parisian tactic : rudeness and selective blindness. Pretending not to see them and, if they're in front of me, a dark blank stare : "Move around, some are working here." Not really friendly, nor my usual behaviour toward tourists, but it works.

Le Rue Haxo ? Nowhere
La rue Haxo ? North-Easth of Paris in the popular districts. A few street from mine. I'd be happy to provide you a special tour if you happen to come to Paris.

If I go there, how about a tour of the decent "farmers markets"? I mean, the ones the "regular" people go to.

Sure. Anyway the Aligre market is obviously comprised in the gourmet tour. It's one of the cheapest in town, and always a good source of everything eatable (including an Italian take-away to die for). Also available, but outside Paris, "pick-it yourself" farms where you go in the field and collect your own fruits and vegetables (the salad there is roughly 0,60 euro - 0,80 USD - can't be cheaper and freshier than there) And it's great fun for the kids.
