Re: Mystery, thriller and crime story
Hornets nest. It's AFAIK the only one available of this new trend in France. I rank it better than the last Scarpetta novels, but not as powerful as the first ones.
Still Patricia Cornwell is a solid read. When buying one of her book, ones knows she/he will be entertained by it.

Re: Mystery, thriller and crime story
strange as it may seem, i've only recently read her first book. i was shocked at how palid and uninteresting and angst ridden scarpetta has become. she used to be well rounded and flawed, now she is super human (almost) and to good to be true while the world around her collapes...(brings out violin). but yes, i still enjoy the scarpettas. i'm gonna continue to avoid the others though.

Re: Mystery, thriller and crime story
I prefer a good historical mystery like those from these authors: Lindsay Davis, Anne Perry, Elizabeth Peters, Sharon Kay Penman...of course I enjoy contemporary as well but I'm much pickier with those.

Re: Mystery, thriller and crime story
The amazon search index gives only one French translation Morte de Aquiles, and that is the 4th book of Fandorin(e) series.
To place first items in chronological order:
1) Azazel (Fallen Angel)
2) Turkish gambit
3) Leviathan
4) The Death of Achilles
Then goes two brilliant novelettes:
Knave - merry and smart one about Moscow fraud
Decorator - grim and ominous - real Jack the Ripper in Moscow (that same who killed prostitutes on Whitechapel. Here Akunin uses one of Scotland Yard's real versions).
Etc.
