Default Music day

As it's the first day of summer, here (France) today is declared Music day.
1 - is it the same at your home ?
2 - what do you plan to do to celebrate it ?

1. Not as far as I'm aware but it seems each day is "something day" these days (wow, that's a confusing sentence! )

2. I dunno - listen to some music (although I do that everyday, anyway... )

We don't have Music Day here in the States, but I like the concept. Here, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the first weekend in June we have an Arts Festival downtown. There are several stages set up for musical acts of all varieties, including classical, folk, rock, etc. Over half a million people attend the annual 3 day event. I consider it the unofficial beginning of summer, and look forward to it, every year. Any day that celebrates music is a good day.

Nice festival, angrybuddhist, and very similar to our Music Day.
Yesterday, all day and all night long, several stages were set for musicians (pro or not) in every town, most concerts were free, including the ones with famous people, and several streets were converting into dancing hall. For example, I went roaming in the streets and all started with a violin, a cello and a singer. Then, in a bar, pop from the 80s, in front of another one, french folk. In a cave, several famous singers (within our borders) were reunited for an improvisation show. Later in the night, went into a ball, African drummers, french/magrebi rock, and finished the night in a bar full of tsigane jazz.

I might be wrong but I have never heard of a music day here in Western Australia.

Once a year though they have an outdoor concert set amongst the vinyards at Margaret River in the southwest. The audience sit on blankets or outdoor chairs, sipping their wine, soft drink or champage after a picnic. The rich and the not so rich all join together to attend this event. They usually have an internationally famous singer there to perform. Opera singers and pop singers, such as Sting. One year as an opera diva was singing the kookaburras joined in!!

Other than that, it's Music Day in my place - everyday!

Madame Leto,

We don't have a "Music Day" here, but have you ever heard of "Summerfest"? Enough said, I guess.

We have an artfest in our community, sponsored by the local art museum. Lots of music along with visual art. We're playing at it (husband and myself). We also have one night a week. outdoor concerts throughout the summer (we're performing at that, too). As well as community band concerts in the park.
