Default battle of trafalgar re-enactment

at the re-enactment of the battle of trafalger in commemoration of this historic battle, the teams will not be labled as british and french, but rather red and blue, so as not to offend the french. i'm really think this is just political correctness gone crazy! why bother to re-enact if we cannot accept the eventual and historical outcome.

I agree that it seems crazy and hardly worth the while of re-enacting it at all.

A few years ago I watched a re-enactment of the second battle of Dunbar (Cromwell's New Model Army versus The Covenanters). Most of us locals turned out for what was a very good day of both education and entertainment. Historically, the Battle of Dunbar was one of the biggest defeats in Scottish history and we sat and watched it all over again.

None of the locals took any offence and went home peacefully (but with our tails between our legs yet again :biggrin

Celebrating our heritage is one thing but the cost of this is phenomenal. We the people are paying for this through the defence budget. In the mid seventies the Admiral of the Fleet was retiring so there was a 9 ship sailpast to salute him. The press would have had a field day with the cost of that so this was done in the West Indies. I know because I was on one of those ships.
