Re: what are you reading?
Me think you're talking about the same thing but one with an american word and the other one with a british one.
Are the sales you're talking like flea market but without professional seller, just people selling old stuff they had ?

yep, american flea market would be equivalent, these are a mixture of private and professional stalls

Ok, so for Alexa, Ivy is talking about "une brocante de rue".
Vary fashionable in Paris as soon May is here, nearly every week-end there's one in the streets nearby. And, on top of that I live with 20 minutes by walk of the main flea market, but hopeflly I would have to cross all Paris to go to the one specialized in books.

Re: what are you reading?
Looks like more organized selling. A garage sell is when somebody wants to get rid of old stuffs right in front of their house during week-ends. Somethimes neighbourgs decide to make one same day to attract more people. A few years back I could buy a good book for $ 1. Sigh ! Now they ask for at least 5.

Re: what are you reading?
Here, in the city, it can be one person, but usually it's at least a full condo as it's easier to ask municipality authorization to use part of public pavement. In the country side, pure garage sales are more commons.

Re: what are you reading?
also try library discards. cheap and books in good condition. also often hard backs. which are far more tough than paperbacks

Re: what are you reading?
I received two free books from my library when I bought Polgara. One of them is Genese French translation for the reality dysfunction, part 1) of Peter F. Hamilton. The other one is the translation of "For the sake of Elena", by Elizabeth George.
Did you read something of Hamilton ?
