Default What the hell is going in Australia???

There were reports a little while ago, that Australia was going through a bit of an intensive heat wave... Then over the last couple of days, the temperature has taken and sudden U-turn down, and several months worth of rain has fallen in 24 hours, causing flash floods and the like.

Will climate-ologists claim this to be the work of global warming and be holding up their "THE END IS NIGH" banners to get the G8 countries to stop using fossil fuels...

It did rain upon us a heafty sum. My room sprouted leaks like a market garden. Indications are a low-pressure system came up from the south and ran-into the heat, thus making rain. This is similar to the whole cyclone thing, but we are southern and safe.

As to global warming, meh. Although I did see charts indicating we are still in the warming phase of the interglacials, so all we're doing is speeding the process. I'm more concerned about radiation, sustainability and toxic materials than the global temperature. Many people forget that our climate isn't static.

Case in point, I did the whole enviromental thingy as a job. We were set to remove plants that birds had spread amongst the local area. Now, if birds were doing it, and not people, this makes it a natural aspect of enviromental evolution. So in effect we were trying to bring the way the enviroment works to a stand-still.

Sorry, rant over. Ans I'm not blind to the dangers of human interference in our eco-system, I just look at it from a different perspective to most.

well this is not actually about Australia, but it goes in the same direction. don't know about you, but I thought it awfully strange to have it snowing from mid-January to mid-March. This is the first time in my life most of Europe had snow in MARCH! It had even snow in Reims where there hasn't been snow for ages.

And then suddenly a few days ago, everything changes and now we've got 15 to 20 °C. Late spring temperatures if you ask me.

It's weird. But it's been like this for a while. I still haven't been able to decide if it's the better media coverage or if the climate is really going downhill.

The weather is weird everywhere now, I think. We've been having the strangest spring ever in central California, after a winter that was just as odd - near-record rainfall lasting late into the spring and colder than usual temperatures. We actually have had a spring that lasted more than a week or two - usually, we go straight from winter into summer. Even now, spring doesn't quite want to let go. We've had a couple of stretches of hot weather (in the 90s F - and are having one now; drat it all), but all last week was in the 70s and low 80s, and by the end of this week we are predicted to go back down into the low 80s, maybe even the high 70s, with a chance of rain. The average temperature for today is 90 degress F, and the average rainfall for June is only 0.23 of an inch. It's just weird.

Same thing in Canada. We had the "smog" week-end and I didn't have the courage to get out except for small shoppings. I have allergies and a cardiopathie to be careful with. A good rain should be appreciated.
