I am not a parent, but I do feel that most parents are a little too paranoid these days. Then again there two sides to every fence, for every child that is over protected there is a child that is out of control. I do not envy a parents job at all it is a hard heart wrenching job. For the most part though I believe that most parents are too paranoid and on part I cite the growth of media in my country. The media reports all of these kidnapping and child death cases across the country. This makes it seem very close to your front door. I have done a study for my sociology class that shows that from 1965-2001 that there was virtually no change in the incidents per 100k of people. I have also seen studies tht suggest that sexaul pretdators are not on the rise just more commonly reported.

Now for my rebuttal: I am not a parent and henceforth my thoughts will have little bearing, But I admire everyone who is parent for the choices they have to make and the hardship they will have in making their child into a stable and healthy adult. God bless

I don't know too many overly paranoid parents though I know they are out there. I just remember when I was around ten or twelve and riding my bike down a busy street in the dark thinking the cars have no problems seeing me no worries... then when I took to the wheel I realized what a fool I had been! It is not nearly as easy to see those kids in the dark coming around a corner. This is just one of the reasons parents act the way they do at times imo. I am not a parent yet but have less than three months to go. I am sure I you will all be seeing me ask this say this about my first go at parenting and say to yourselves and probably to me, "I was there".

Plus you have to remember that there is another big threat out there these days that wasn't out in the force it is now... drugs.

3 months is not long Hodor - I was actually 8 weeks premature, so could be even closer than you think! How are YOU coping with the pregnancy? Everyone always asks about the woman, but the man has some interesting moments as well.

I am soooo looking forward to it. I do, however, get nervous about my wife. I am afraid she will hurt herself or something and us being way up in the mountains it is at least an hour and a half to the hospital. Other than that we are enjoying it... my first and hers and so far everything that goes on is rather amazing. Once the doctor had told us it was okay to try to have children it only took a week, but we had been planning for a year. Just didn't think she could conceive so quickly.

I'm probably to over protective,my son was thirteen before he was allowed to town with his friends even although I used to travel up to Scotland to my Gran's on my own when I was younger than him.Even now at seventeen he has to be in by 9:30 on school nights,11:30 weekends and he has to tell me who he's with where he is and if he doesn't answer his mobile when I call theres hell to pay.

Mobile phone, or how technology was turned into an electronic leash for kids.
