Re: Who's a smoker?
I've gone out with smokers, but in one case he was trying to quit when I first met him, then went back to it. But like others have said, it isn't the first criteria for choosing men I'll go out with.
It's a funny thing, but I'm much more tolerant of smoking in my friends than I am of just random people smoking around me. That seems kind of strange, because one would think I would want my friends not to smoke and therefore stay healthier. But I've always been of the opinion that it is up to adults to select the risks they choose to take. But since smoking does annoy me sometimes, especially when my allergies are bothering me, I can get really irate at people I don't know who smoke too close to me so that I have to breathe it. However, since I already love my friends, their smoking doesn't bother me so much. Also, they are considerate enough not to smoke right next to me when it will bother my allergies.

Re: Who's a smoker?
I ain't tolerant of people smoking near me or my son... In fact I've been known to lose it with some person in a bus queue who can't stop smoking while I'm waiting for a bus... And had other people join in and get the person to put it out... hehehe... Even got some inconsiderate scumbag chucked off a bus when he decided to light-up...
I've never had anything to do with going out with smokers, though I've chatted girls/women up THAT smoke, i've never gone past the flirting... Don't fancy playing tonsil tennis with an ashtray!!!

Re: Who's a smoker?
i am a smoker . i like my smokes but often have the same issues as princess ivy . at the same time though it has not made me in active in the slightest. up until a few years ago i still played indoor and outdoor soccer. lack of time has killed that now though. but hiking, walking gardening these are all things i do and the smokes stay atr home.
as for dating whether a person smoke or not did not matter. its who they are and whats inside that counts.
as for the marijuana issue. i believe it should not be a criminal offense. they are in the process of trying to decriminalize it here. i'm sorry but the effects of a couple of puffs is not worsse than having say two high balls.
how many people have been killed in accidents or events that were alccohol related. all other drugs(chemically altered or chemically made) i am strictly against.marijauna grows in dirt just like your carrots.

Re: Who's a smoker?
I didn't notice the marijuana being mentioned... God, I must be getting old when I miss something like that...
I had one smoke of marijuana when I was 16, at a party... Loved it, made me all giggly!!! Never got chance to try again since... Can't find anyone able to get any off...

Re: Who's a smoker?
Wow this topic has evolved into many directions.
I don't smoke cigarettes, but occasionally smoke a cigar every once again. I have never been able to even inhale a cigarette into my lungs so was never tempted to continue trying them. Same thing with weed, although when I have tried it I just didn't enjoy the feeling it gave. I'll stick with beer anyday
I would prefer not to date a person who is a non-smoker. To me, it is a turnoff when I see a beautiful girl puffing away on one cigarette after another.
I don't mind the fact the others smoke, it is their option. I have lots of friends and co-workers who smoke, so am around it quite often. Also, I hate the fact that states are able to sue tobacco companies because they have to pay high healthcare costs. Like it or not, tobacco is a big industry and hurting them will inevitably hurt everyone else (economically).

Re: Who's a smoker?
I miss smoking... sigh... cough... puff...
Ah well... we.. my far better half and I.. gave it up about three years ago for obvious health reasons, being not so young as we wouild like to be anymore!
A few times.. under the extreme influence of Irish weddings.. we have puffed a few smokes outside with friends under the soft moonlight.. (smoking now being banned inside in Ireland as you all know!) Yet have restricted it to that and no backsliding otherwise...
I can honestly say that I love smoking and always did.. if it was not likely to murder me I would still be doing it...

Re: Who's a smoker?
Smoked between 30 & 40 Peter Stuyvesant's a day for 13 years. Stopped Nov 04.
An interesting thing is when you have your first cigarette, it tastes BAD. This is the trap - you think you could never get addicted to something that tastes so bad. So you have to persevere and force yourself to like them. Despite your cough being the bodies way of saying POISON - don't do it! You persevere until you finally succeed in addicting yourself. An that old chestnut - it makes me feel calm - that is because for a brief moment you have satisfied your withdrawal symptoms and for a brief moment are not suffering from being a drug addict and can feel momentarily like...a non smoker! This is how a non smoker feels ALL the time. My wife is on Day 4 of quitting and all I can say is YIPPEE! She no longer STINKS! Can't believe I smelled that bad. Glad she'll be around longer to cook and clean for me....

If it's outdoor with lots of fresh air (or polluted air inside the city) around and the smoke doesn't directly go on your son's face, don't try this with me...
I perfectly understand smoke in a close space is not welcome (in tube station or inside the bus for example), but in the outdoor, I won't drop my cig for you. Especially when it's my way to trick Murphy's law and get the bus to come earlier.
