I quit April 2003. I've spent most of this Winter pining to restart - even now it's blooming tempting. Luckily the one one I had tasted pretty vile, and I've managed to condition myself to remember smoking with that taste. Even still, it's the sheer habit - very insidious.

As for the Code of Conduct - it shouldn't change anything, and we've discussed illegal issues before were some support for illegal drugs was raised. The point of the CoC is really for more extreme instances - it's really just a formal statement of what has otherwise been an informal policy.

My understanding of Illegal discussions would be to plot an illegal act or action. Therefore a discussion about the possible midicinal value of pot (as I posted in the current affairs thread) is ok, so long as we don't discuss where to get it, how much it costs or the best way to roll a joint.

I must admit to smoking tobacco, only. its a bad habit and i wish that i could quit for the sake of my children, health and budget. however everytime that i try i turn into an evil witch and someone buys be a pack just to keep the peace

Don't smoke. Was never tempted. Can't see wasting good money on something that I'm literally going to burn up. That's just me.

I tried cigarettes when I was a teenager(of course), but I could never understand what everyone saw in it. That and it was darned expensive for someone with no money. Not to mention they taste disgusting.

Default Not I, but....

I don't smoke anything and never have, really. I don't like spending money on things outside of necessity that is gone for good the moment I use it. I can pick up DVDs, CDs, or other things with all the money I save not having a smoking habit. Of course, the health issues related to habit is also a reason, but, if I am going to be honest with myself, the only real reason that has made me not smoke is that I simply never had any interest in it.

In the spirits of keeping this discussion moving, let me pose an additional question:

For the chatters who don't smoke, would you ever date a smoker? For chatters who do smoke, would you ever date a nonsmoker?

Personally, I, as a nonsmoker, am willing to date a smoker. My decision to not smoke isn't meant as a judgement on other people. Do I prefer that the other person wouldn't smoke? Yes. But I don't think that the habit would define the person. I would like the person to respect my own health concerns and smoke outside or, at least, open a window when they smoke.

I would not date a smoker even though I am a smoker myself. It is a vile habit. I only smoke because of my heady youth, where I was too intoxicated to know what I was doing.

Sincerely I've never selected my dates this way. As a low smoker, I've dated chainsmokers, non smokers or smokers as low as me. As long as there one smoke free room in the house (preferably the bedroom, also TV free area) it's fine with me.
Around non-smokers, my policy is simple. I'm at somone eslse place who don't smoke : either I don't or I excuse myself and I get out. In public place, I have a look at the area policy and usually smokes in bars but not in restaurants. If I'm home, except when kids or asthmatic (sp??) people are around, I smoke. Fresh air is not a poblem, smoking or not, there's almost eveytime an open window at home.

Tobacco - the most pointless drug in the world.

I live in a house where every other individual is a smoker of both varieties, and find it irksome but bearable.
