The greatest song ever?
What is the greatest song lyric ever written?
Hallelujah - written by Leonard Cohen and has been performed by at least 30 well known artists. The Rufus Wainwright, KD Lang and Sheryl Crowe versions are my favourite, although many prefer Jeff Buckley's version. Leonard Cohen is a lyrical genius.

Re: The greatest song ever?
I'm not sure it's the best. But it's certainly one of my favorite lyrics. Although, I can't hear "I'm your man" sang by Leonard Cohen without chills.

Re: The greatest song ever?
Indeed they are fine lyrics, but probably not the best. Something from Carmen, or the excellent work coming out of Darren Hanlon, is arguably as good.

Re: The greatest song ever?
Darren Hanlon, any particular song? I will of course check out his music this instant. Nick Cave's God Is In The House is also fantastic. Anything by Nick Drake. All the songs from Astral Weeks by Van Morrison - the greatest album ever made. Woodstock, the Joni Mitchell version....
Leto - you can hold one song against the man. Think about 'Lover, Lover, Lover', 'Who by Fire', and 'Take This Longing'. Although, other than 'Hallelujah', I think 'Greensleaves' is his best track.

Sorry I didn't made myself clear. "I'm your man" is so good I can't hear it without physical reaction.

Re: The greatest song ever?
IMO, yep. Maybe because that's a kind of thing every woman would love to hear from her partner.

Oh, yes on Greensleeves. I've heard the prettier trad-folk original, and this just totally plays the material against it's original tone. A masterpiece of cynical reconstruction. 'Greensleeves, you're all alone...'

Re: The greatest song ever?
The Rufus Wainwright version is the best, by quite some distance, IMHO.
Best song ever? Pfft. Dire Straights, Brothers in Arms.
