What makes it tough for me is parts of my collection is close to half a century old and I'm still going.

Am trying very hard not to think about that. Many of the books have been on those shelves since I was knee-high to a grasshopper and many more were bought, rescued, traded for and came into the world way before I did. I don't know too many people here who read what I do, certainly not my only sibling.

I wish sometimes that there would be a way to take them with me ... in Elizabeth Kostova's book The Historian, Dracula is searching theworld for someone to become his eternal librarian ... it's quite tempting.

That sounds a lot like a Lestat-like Dracula instead of Stoker's cold blooded killer.

Err, Lestat hates book (thanks to his father). A Louis-like, yes.
The Drakula from Kostova's book is a vampiric Vlad Tepes, more close to the original model than the one in Bram Stoker.

nesacat, a suggestion, give them - in your will - to the public university library near your home. The best life for books is to be read, and re-read.

Been a few years since I read the early books. I stand corrected.

I did find myself liking Elizabeth Kostova's vampire very much, though I didn't like the way the book ended. Actually re-read the ending three times to make sure I'd not missed anything.

I have considered that Leto and gone to look at several libraries. Truth be told, not many people at all read science fiction and fantasy and most don't read at all. Booksellers have a hard time of it here. The National Library is a cavern of a place with lots of funding and empty shelves. The library at the University nearest to where I live is almost purely academic.

Will likely split them up among friends who would care for them and read them and share them, which means they'll get to travel.
