Re: What does your library look like???
Oh, all right. I can't see properly at the best of times, and drink makes it impossible to see.... and I don't guzzle, hmph... well, I sort of sip.....
My memory is so bad that sometimes I forget people- I forgot the name of a friend I've known for seven years, which everyone thought was very funny, but I thought it was embarressing. I've now forgotten everything I learnt in college this year..... all I remember are odd things.

Re: What does your library look like???
Hijacking threads to discuss your alcoholism, and other anti-social activities... Shame on you!!!
Don't worry, my sweet, I can say that I derailed this thread (as well as many others) myself... But that is the nature of threads, they evolve and change...
Now let's talk libraries (private, lending, etc)... We've only got a little one near me... Not much of a Sci-Fi/Fantasy section... There is a big reference library in Leeds, but not had a chance to look in there... Might have to give it a try...
Only trouble is, I take so long to read books, I would pay more in fines than if I just bought them in the first place!!!

I often dream of having a room filled with wonderful shelving, and all my books organised and neat... It appears I am not alone.... one day...

Absolutely! I imagine wonderful moving shelving like that made my Kurt Russel's carpenter in Overboard for Goldie Hawn's socialite to hold her shoes.

I often dream of a personal library, with shelves on every wall packed...

Re: What does your library look like???
Yes. Insofar as I have any future dreams for myself, I would love to have a house with a huge upstairs hall lined with bookshelves and lots of rugs and cushions to plonk down with a book on. My paternal grandfather actually has a set-up a bit like this, but too much other furniture between the shelves.

Re: What does your library look like???
I've had a dream of a large well stacked library... With comfy chairs, and/or large cushions (maybe in the style of "1001 Arabian Nights", like the harems)... An entertainment system playing suitable music... A small kitchenette for refreshments... Maybe even a hidden room for my most treasured books...

Re: What does your library look like???
I'm currently working with a highly reduced version of my library. I just got too many books to keep moving with all of them.
But at home (my parents' place), I've got shelves of shelves full with orderly rows of books. They're sorted by age and author (easy, since many authors write mostly for the same age group...). Then there's my shelve over my table where all non-German books are placed following the same system. I wish I could give you some pictures, but I'm a bit too far away from there to take some... If this topic is still around in three weeks, I'll post some...
