Re: What does your library look like???
I'm afraid most of my fiction is either up in the loft or given away now, so my library consists primarily of factual works, mostly bought over the last 7 years or so. Kids tend to squeeze on your space, you see, especially when you live in a rather tiny house.
Digital camera wanted more light, but c'est la vie.
Bottom Row:
Ancient Rome >> Ancient Greece >> Ancient Egypt
2nd row:
Oversized ancient history, moving into neolithic and celtic >> Byzantine and Mediaeval Europe
3rd Row:
General world religion resources
Top row:
Astrophysics and science >> black history (unread) >> natural history

Re: What does your library look like???
Can I come and live at your house, Andreas?
Master - if you move every year for ten years (in and out of tiny apartments)you get damned tired of hefting large, heavy boxes so the miscellaneous paperbacks and such get taken to the local trade in store for credit against the next stack of paperbacks and so on. I now don't intend to move, save some horrible disaster, for at least five more years so I can now get back into actually keeping my books again. I miss all those books I've gotten rid of over the years but it is also fun to go out and try and find them again and rediscover the stories I enjoyed before.

Heretic! I refuse to rent, or throw away books.
And yes, I'm sure there's room on the couch.

Re: What does your library look like???
Renting sucks but when you have no credit or cash it is impossible to buy. Thankfully we are past that now. And I'd like a reservation for your couch Andreas, say February 31st next year I think that would be when I could afford to make it accross the water...

February 31st it is. You'll just fill the slot between the florists and the black metallers nicely. Shall we say six months?

Hehe. That is my family's mentality as well. We are mortified when people throw away books. My mom thinks they are a curse on us, since most free time is spent reading, and not much else. One time to flabbergasted faces she proposed to burn a bunch of old crappy books. We would have none of it.
My library consists of a shelf with some books haphazardly laying everywhere, among old toys, old coins and money. The rest of my books are sharing my bedroom with an arrangement of dirty cloths popsicle wrappers, towels and various other things.

Re: What does your library look like???
I find it very hard to throw/give away books, and as I spend about £500 - £1000 on books a year my collection is a sprawled mess. Boxes in the attic, book shelves aching, collections in several rooms in two houses. They would be impossible to photograph. There's a lot of crap books in my collection which are deserving of a November 5th send off.

I must admit I have burned one book... Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
